Activities along the trail>>

Picnicking areas and playgrounds are provided in York, Sharon, Hickory Grove and Smyrna. Horseback riding is allowed on the western portion of the trail between Kings Creek and Smyrna. Along the York Bicycle Trail in downtown York, rollerblading, skateboarding and cycling are allowed. Mountain biking is allowed along additional portions of the trail. Tennis courts are available in Sharon, Hickory Grove and Smyrna and baseball fields are located in York, Hickory Grove and Smyrna. All forms of minerals and rocks may be found along the trail. Several mine sights existed in the area, with everything carried out by rail. Gold was even mined in this part of the county.Various forms of wildlife are visible along the trail including: birds, squirrels, possums, raccoons, rabbits, white tailed deer, wild turkeys, and hawks. Even additional hiking trails are available such as, the Kings Mountain Railroad Trail in York and various short trails on the James Ross Wildlife Reservation. There's just so much to see & do.
Historical Districts & Museums
The McCelvey Center in York is home to the Historical Center of York County, and the Southern Revolutionary War Institute. A walking tour has been developed for the Historical District of York, the second largest Historic District in the state. Walking tour books are provided, courtesy of The Yorkville Historical Society, at the Greater York Chamber of Commerce.
In Sharon, offering visitors an intimate journey through the area's rich local history, is the Museum of Western York County. Where the culture and heritage of the area is presented through a wide variety of memorabilia ranging from rough plows to delicate glassware. The historic district also has several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

York Recreation Complex - 5 lighted ball fields with Bermuda grass, concessions/restrooms/ scoring tower, lighted walking trails, 3 picnic shelters, playground, 18 championship horseshoe courts, ample seating/parking
York Bicycle Trail - 1 mile paved trail from Raille Street (City Park) to Fourth Street (York Recreation Complex)
Sharon Park - horseshoes, playground, basketball and tennis courts
Hickory Grove Park - horseshoes, playground, baseball field, picnic shelter, basketball and tennis courts
Smyrna Park - playground, baseball field, picnic shelter, and tennis courts
James Ross Wildlife Reservation
Hiking, Nature viewing and even hunting during season in this 305 acre wildlife management area. Donated to the state in 1995, this nature preserve is still not well known.
On the property one can expect to see lots of wildlife: deer, turkey, quail, rabbits, song birds, possums, racoons, etc.
Hunting of white-tailed deer, wild turkey, small game and furbearers is allowed during season, for more information contact the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
